How many times have you started a recipe only to find out that you're missing a key ingredient? Don't you hate when that happens? You have a choice .... scratch the recipe, make a trip to the store - or see if you can improvise!

Me? I'll go with improvise every single time if I can! Believe it or not, I can't find buttermilk at my local store. They don't sell it for whatever reason. Crazy, I know. I have mentioned it to a few employees and their response is that they sell a powdered variety. While I have been known to use it on a very rare occasion, it's just too darn expensive for me! With a few (count 'em TWO) common ingredients, you can easily make your own buttermilk. When used in a recipe, you will never know the difference! Give it a try!

  1. I usually only need a small amount of Buttermilk and then the rest of the container goes to waste, so now I also make my own. Shared :-)
